
Overcoming Frontiers was born in the Year 2010 in a private school, Colegio Ricaurte de Soacha, because of a pilot program for lower income community students that could not effort Special Education Programs, bilingual education with English as a Second Language and new travel opportunities in the local or international areas. All this, for the most needed population, including vulnerable children from extracts one and two, which are children from the most needed lower income communities.
Neighborhoods in Bogota are classified on a six-level scale with 1 being the most economically challenged and 6 being the least. Soacha is currently classified as level 1. The school's founders and management team strive to provide a solid education to the local students to enable them to obtain successful employment, thereby improving the economic climate of the area for the future. This private Institution, School Ricaurte of Soacha was born from a special dream of the spouses Mr. Jose Joaquin Baquero Rojas and Mrs. Barbara Baquero Bohorquez, their sons Gerardo ,Jose Joaquin, Esperanza , Myrian Lucy y Benjamin Baquero that donated the lot where the school was originaly built, and initiated activities in 1981. The Colegio Ricaurte de Soacha was previously founded in the 1970s as a private school located in the South of Bogota, Colombia with the name of Institute Leocadia Rojas, in honor to the paternal grandmother, Mrs. Rosa Leocadia Rojas, who was an educator. Overcoming Frontiers proactively support in Special Education Students and Bilingual Students who would otherwise not have an opportunity in education and personal growth. Overcoming Frontiers provide "inclusion" approach that integrates Special Education Students into regular classes and provides opportunities to targeted individual´s needs.
In 2010, the school was selected as a project site by IVHQ (International Volunteer Headquarters), a New Zealand-based placement service for individuals interested in volunteering in international locations. Volunteers can now participate in an even broader list of projects at the school .
Overcoming Frontiers' Mission is oriented to promote excellence and comprehensive education opportunities with standards of quality and efficiency. These factors allow the social development within the complete community not only in the cognitive aspects of education, but also in the physical, social, and spiritual factors to help build independent and responsible persons, whom are able to participate in all fields of life. These children will be able to transform and live within the society surrounding us, as unique human beings in a global society.
